Corrections Supervision Feb 3–5, 2020
This three-day course is designed specifically for first line supervisors in a corrections environment who direct, motivate, lead, appraise and discipline others. Supervising in a jail is different than the road and the class recognizes that with added skills. As a result of coaching, role play, exercises, self-assessments, group discussions and lecture, participants will leave with new knowledge and skills in:
- Setting expectations and holding employees accountable
- Analyzing and resolving performance problems
- Improving workplace communication
- Gaining listening and assertion skills
- Coaching others for improved work performance
- Learning behaviors and characteristics of quality leaders
- The role of motivation in performance
The course also features realistic corrections-based scenarios with participants identifying and addressing potential risks and legal issues in the corrections environment such as: inmate behavior management; safety and security of the facility, staff and inmates; supervision of mandated recordkeeping and reporting; the different challenges facing small-, mid-, and large-sized jails; and, much more!
