Nonverbal Behavior, Interview and Interrogation Courses

Interview / Interrogation -- Learn how to get 50% more information from the interview. This course gives a common sense approach to more effective interrogation and interview. Attendees will learn how to build their personal credibility in the eyes of the subjects / suspects and how to use the psychological elements of persuasion. The course covers pre-interview considerations, rapport building, cross-examination techniques, narrative questioning, written, oral, and recorded confessions and much more.

Nonverbal Deception Indicators  - This advanced course in deception indicators gives detectives the information and practical know-how to become more effective interviewers. To read a suspect's body language based on gut response is not enough, because the analysis may result from projection. Instructor uses the results of research in interview and interrogation to build on the investigative know-how of attendees. Learn when to trust a subject's signals. Learn how and when to read microexpressions, the seven essential guidelines to prevent mistakes in reading behavior, gestures which signal truth versus those which signal deception, general deception versus specific deception, how to read foot and leg movement and more. Taught by an expert in nonverbal behavior, this course maximizes the ability to get confessions.

Nonverbal Behavior of the Interviewer -- Effective interview / interrogation is an art. Successful interviewers know that we only remember 25% of what is said immediately after we hear it and so employ a nonjudgmental mind set that enables effective recall. They utilize nonverbal behavior to reinforce their credibility and send messages of empathy and rapport to "invite" confessions. They control the situation through subtle power behavior and specialized listening techniques. Target: Interviewers who seek a higher level of effectiveness.

Effective Listening for Successful Interview / Interoggation --This course analyzes barriers to listening and aids interviewers in finding interrogation wedges. Participants assess personal strengths and weaknesses in listening, learn how to get more complete information, how to use the reflective listening technique as an aid to better questioning, and how to avoid letting their own biases affect their determination of truth and deception.

Interviewing the Child Victim -- We know that children who have been sexually abused often grow up to become abusers. Learn how a police investigator/ interviewer can intervene more effectively, successfully interview child victims, understand the 4 phases of child abuse, identify witnesses, organize and pursue the case so that the prosecution has a greater chance to convict, correlate bruises and wounds with certain types of abuse, recognize the characteristics of an abused or neglected child, and identify the symptoms of sexual abuse in children.

Courtroom Credibility -- A trial judge, a trial attorney, and an expert in nonverbal behavior will help participants develop their testimony skills and show them how to testify professionally and credibly. We'll discuss rules of evidence; show how to use counter strategies to avoid falling victim to tricky cross examination; and discuss nonverbal behaviors that demonstrate competence, trustworthiness, and objectivity to the judge and jury. Participants will practice the skills, be video taped, and receive constructive comments on performance.
